Brett Vogel was born and raised in Rockford, Illinois. He grew up listening to his father’s records and was a fan of music from a very young age. Vogel was blessed with a large vocal range and exemplifies a beautiful tone. He showcases his sweet and soaring falsetto in many of his songs. Vogel started playing the guitar at the age of 16 and his first musical love was The Dave Matthews Band. He crafted his first original song “Wishing You Were Here”, which is featured on his debut album Lonely Traveler with fellow friend and musician Jon Miller at the age of 18. After graduating from high school, Vogel earned a bachelors degree in finance from Eastern Illinois University. While in college, Vogel was part of the college choir for 4 years, and took private voice and piano lessons. Soon after graduation, he worked as a waiter at Ishnala Supper Club in The Wisconsin Dells and earned enough money to record his first album Lonely Traveler. The album received critical acclaim and helped him earn a RAMI (Rockford Area Music Award) award for Best New Artist, and Song of the Year for “No Grace in Goodbyes”, co-written with Jon Miller.
Soon after the release of Lonely Traveler, Vogel packed his bags and drove his van solo across the country with only his clothes and guitar. He landed in south central Los Angeles and lived in an old sewing factory for the first six months. Shortly thereafter, he moved in with a friend’s Mom, and slept on her couch for a year. The first adventure to Los Angeles lasted for 3 years. Overcome by his demons, Vogel quit playing music for almost 3 years. He returned home to pick up the pieces. Having healed himself, Vogel made a second trek to Los Angeles. This time around would prove to be much more successful! Vogel was introduced to cellist, Aniela Perry, through a mutual friend and the two begin playing acoustic shows together all over southern California! All together the two played more than 150 shows in 2013.
In 2014, Vogel decided to switch gears and focus on recording a new album. In January of 2014, Perry introduced Vogel to producer/engineer/musician Jason Lee. Vogel and Lee hit it off right from the start and immediately starting working on Vogel’s sophomore album Never Giving Up. Over the next 8 months, Vogel would fly friend and writer/guitarist Jon Miller to Los Angeles on three separate occasions to help with the recording. Miller co-wrote “Painted Skies” and played various instruments on the recording. All remaining songs on the album were written solely by Vogel. The track listings are in order: “When You’re Lonely,” “Never Giving Up,” “California Take Me Away,” “Crazy About a Girl,” “Two Times the Killer,” “Surcease in Time,” “Painted Skies,” “I Miss the Snow,” “All of the Others,” “In Too Deep”, and “The Albatross.” Vogel released the deluxe version of “Never Giving Up” on January 15th 2016. The album features 7 additional tracks including “Wave California”, “Never Giving Up” (Jason Lee Remix), “When You’re Lonely” (Jason Lee Remix), “Wave California” (Acoustic), “In Too Deep” (Acoustic), “Blackbird” (The Beatles Cover), and “Crazy Love” (Van Morrison Cover). From the opening track “When You’re Lonely”, to the final song “The Albatross”, the album will keep you entertained from start to finish! Vogel’s soaring falsetto vocals on the chorus of the title track “Never Giving Up” speak to the heart of anyone who isn’t willing to walk away from something or someone. Vogel invested 8 months recording his sophomore album Never Giving Up in a boutique studio located deep in the heart of lovely Mandeville Canyon right off of Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles, CA.
